Luqing Zhu is a research engineer with UL Research Institutes’ Fire Safety Research Institute. Luqing joined the team in 2025 after completing his Ph.D. in fire protection engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He also holds a master’s degree in safety engineering from the University of Science and Technology of China. His graduate research focused on understanding the ignition process of structural materials by glowing firebrand accumulations, with the goal of enhancing the resilience of homes and communities against firebrand attacks during wildland-urban interface fires. His research interests include material characterization, thermal analysis, and pyrolysis modeling in fire models.
