National Engagement Open for NERIS Draft Data Framework
Extended National Engagement Period for NERIS Draft Data Framework

Update: The National Engagement for the NERIS Draft Data Framework is now closed. Thank you for your interest and feedback. We've received more than 1250 comments. Stay tuned for updates on upcoming revisions and the release of Version 1 in Summer 2024.

The US Fire Administration and the Fire Safety Research Institute (FSRI), part of UL Research Institutes, are extending the national engagement period for the National Emergency Response Information System (NERIS) Draft Data Framework, in response to the substantial interest received. This important phase, initially set from December 18, 2023, to January 19, 2024, will now continue until February 16, 2024.

We invite continued input on the newly developed data schemas vital to NERIS operations. These include:

  • Fire Department Specification: Characterizing fire department capabilities and staffing.
  • Computer Aided Dispatch: Capturing timing, location, and initial incident types.
  • Incident Data: Ensuring detailed and accurate incident information for effective response and analysis.

Who Should Participate?

  • Emergency response professionals and administrators
  • Software developers and data scientists in the field of emergency response
  • Public safety and emergency management officials
  • Representatives from government agencies
  • Interested members of the public

Feedback received by the original deadline of January 19 will be considered for the prototype of NERIS. Inputs submitted between January 19 and February 16 will inform Version 1.0 of the NERIS Data Framework, scheduled for release in late Spring 2024.  All comments submitted by February 16 will be adjudicated by the NERIS Team.
