CPSE to Align CFAI Model with NERIS

The Fire Safety Research Institute (FSRI) is collaborating with the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE) to integrate the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) Model with the National Emergency Response Information System (NERIS). This partnership aims to support historical and future fire service data reporting and benefit fire departments nationwide.

By December 2024, CPSE plans to:

  • Publish a crosswalk between the 10th Edition CFAI model and NERIS data schemas.
  • Release policy guidance for CFAI agencies on the transition to NERIS data reporting.
  • Update the CFAI Interpretation Guide to include NERIS-related information.
  • Schedule a Peer Assessor Continuing Education session on NERIS.
  • Organize an Accreditation Manager Dayroom discussion focused on NERIS.
  • Incorporate NERIS requirements into the upcoming 11th edition of the CFAI model.

CPSE will work with NERIS alpha and beta agencies, technical panel members, and USFA and FSRI staff to develop these deliverables.
