FDNY Firefighters Rescued by Ladders After 3‑Alarm Bronx Firehouse Blaze

April 6, 2026

Article states, FDNY firefighters were rescued by ground and aerial ladders after becoming trapped during a three‑alarm fire at a Bronx firehouse early March 27, officials said.

The fire began shortly after 6 a.m. inside the first floor of Engine Company 79 on Briggs Avenue in the Bedford Park neighborhood. A firefighter on house watch detected the fire and alerted others inside the building, prompting an evacuation.

Fire conditions blocked the stairway, preventing firefighters on the second floor from escaping. Following department training, they sheltered in place inside a front room until rescue crews arrived.

Ladder Company 56 removed the firefighters through second‑floor windows using portable and aerial ladders, FDNY officials said.

Fourteen firefighters reported minor injuries. One was transported to Jacobi Medical Center for evaluation. All personnel were accounted for, and fire protection in the surrounding area continued uninterrupted.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation
