Joseph Willi

Research Engineer

Since joining UL's Fire Safety Research Institute (FSRI) as a Research Engineer in March 2017, Joseph has been a primary contributor to projects focused on live-fire training, fire investigation, and fire modeling. Additionally, he's developed several tools that have enhanced the team's research capabilities, including a portable measurement system that's used to quantify the thermal exposures experienced by individual firefighters during fireground operations. Prior to FSRI, Joe worked as a Fire Protection Engineer in the Fire Research Division of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, where his work covered research topics related to fire model validation, firefighter personal protective equipment performance testing, and firefighting tactics. Joseph holds a Bachelor of Science in general engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a master's degree in fire protection engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park.
