Hossein Lotfi
Hossein Lotfi is a research scientist for UL Research Institutes’ Fire Safety Research Institute. Hossein’s work centers on applying machine learning and fire modeling to advance understanding and prediction of how weather influences conditions within the wildland-urban interface. He has extensive experience analyzing large geospatial datasets and integrating machine learning methods to extract actionable insights from complex environmental data. Hossein earned his Ph.D. in earth and atmospheric science from Mississippi State University, where his research focused on land-atmosphere interactions and the regional impacts of wildfires using physics-based modeling and simulation. Driven by a commitment to impactful, applied science, Hossein focuses on using real-world fire observations to address sustainability and resilience challenges at the intersection of weather, wildfires, and human systems.
