Matthew Harris

Research Fellow

Matthew Harris is currently a FPE graduate student at UMD. Matthew received his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 2020. During his time at Notre Dame, Matthew was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and vice president of Chi Epsilon, the civil engineering honor society. Firefighter safety has always been a part of Matthew’s life. His father is a 29-year veteran of the New York City Fire Department. In addition, many of Matthew’s uncles and cousins are members of the FDNY.

Matthew is conducting his Master’s thesis on heat transfer in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI). This research is focused on understanding heat transfer and temperature increase in common decking and siding materials found in the WUI. He is expected to complete his thesis requirements in April of 2022.
